♦· Kaempfert originally ►"used it" under the title "Beddy Bye".♪...
as part of the instrumental score for the movie "A Man Could Get
Killed".. . . ·♦
♫...
♦· ...In an interview Avo Uvezian gave an account of the story behind
"Strangers in the Night" stating that 'he originally composed the
song for Frank Sinatra while in New York at the request of a mutual
friend who wanted to introduce the two'. He wrote the melody after
which someone else put in the lyrics and the song was originally
titled ♦·Broken Guitar·♦.♪. . .
After presenting the song to Sinatra a week later, Sinatra did not
like the lyrics, so =the lyrics were rewritten= and the song was
renamed and became known as ♦·Strangers in the Night·♦.♪. . .
When asked about why someone else (Kaempfert) was claiming the song,
Uvezian went on to say that since Kaempfert was a friend of his and
in the industry, he asked him to publish the German version in
Germany so the two can split the profits since Uvezian did not feel
he would get paid for his work on the song in the US. Uvezian stated
that when he gave the music to Kaempfert the song had already been
renamed and lyrics revised. Uvezian also stated that Kaempfert also
gave him a letter aknowledging Uvezian as the composer. . . . ·♦
♫...
♦· ...The phrase "Strangers in the Night" was created after the composition,
when the New York music publishers, Roosevelt Music, requested that the
lyricists Snyder and Singleton --fresh off of "Spanish Eyes", composed by
Kaempfert of "Moon Over Naples" fame-- put some words to the tune.
♦·Stranci u Noci·♦.♪. . . is a literal translation of this phrase. . . ·♦
(Croatian-language version)
♫...
♦· ...It is sometimes 'claimed' that the Croatian singer ♦·Ivo Robic·♦.♪. . .
was the original composer of 'Strangers in the Night,'.♪. . . and that
HE SOLD THE RIGHTS to Kaempfert after entering it without success in a song
contest in Yugoslavia. . . . ·♦
♫...
♦· ...This is the final album Sinatra performed with long-time
arranger/conductor ♦·Nelson Riddle and his orchestra·♦.♪... ·♦
♫...
♦· Sinatra's recording won him the "Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance".♪...
and the "Grammy Award for Record of the Year".♪..., as well as a "Grammy Award for Best
Arrangement Accompanying a Vocalist or Instrumentalist" for ♦·Ernie Freeman·♦.♪. . . at
the ♦·GRAMMY AWARDS of 1967·♦.♪. . . It became a gold record. . . . ·♦
♫...
♦· ...Sinatra despesid the song, calling it at one time "A piece of shit" and "THE WORST
FUCKING SONG THAT I EVER HEARD". He was not afraid to voice his disapproval of playing
it live. In spite of his contempt for the song, for the first time in eleven years he
had a number one song, and it remained on the charts for fifteen weeks. . . . ·♦

♦· Just take those old records off the shelf.
I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself.
Today's music ain't got the same soul.
I like that old time rock'n'roll!!!!!
Don't try to take me to a disco.
You'll never even get me out on the floor.
In 1O minutes I'll be late for the door!
I like that Old time Rock'n'Roll!!!
Still like that old time rock'n'roll.
That kind of music just soothes the Soul!!!
I reminisce about the days of Old. . .
With that old time rock'n'roll...
Ow!
Won't go to hear 'em play a tango.
I'd rather hear some Blues or Funky Old Soul,
There's only one sure way to get me to go!
Start playin' OLD TIME ROCK'N'ROLL!!!
Call me a relic, call me what you will...,
Say I'm old-fashioned, say I'm over the hill. . .
TODAY'S MUSIC AIN'T GOT THE SAME SOUL...
I like that old time rock'n'roll!!!!!!!!!!
Still like that old time rock'n'roll.
That kinda music just soothes the soul.
I reminisce about the days of old.
With that old time rock'n'roll!!!
Oh!
Still like that Old Time rock'n'roll!
that kinda music just soothes the soul,
I reminisce about THE DAYS OF OLD!!!

Yo rememoro Aquéllos días...,

No iré a escucharlos tocar un tango.
Yo preferiría, oír Algún Blues. . .
O Aquél 'funky Old soul'...

♦· •claves• : are a percussion instrument (idiophone), consisting of a
pair of short (about 2O-3O cm.(7.9-11.8 in) thick dowels.
Traditionally they are made of wood, tipically 'rosewood', 'ebony'
or 'grenadilla'. In modern times they are also made of 'fiberglass'
or 'plastics'. . . . ·♦

♦· ..." The loneliness expressed in the song is palpable; all about
being left behind, the song is certainly a tribute in musical and
lyrical tone to such Robert Johnson blues songs as 'Love in Vain'
-a favourite cover of the Stones-referencing such images as a train
leaving the station. "
Bill Janovitz
(all music, 2OO7)
'No Expectations'.♪

♦· Jagger said in a 1995 interview in "Rolling Stone"(musical magazine),
"That's Brian playing (the slide guitar). We were sitting around in a
circle on the floor, singing and playing, recording with open mikes.
That was the last time I remember Brian really being totally involved
in something that was really worth doing". Accompanying Jones is Richards
on acoustic rhythm guitar. Janovitz remarked that Richards, "play(s)
the same open-tuned rhythm he would later use on 'You Can't Always Get
What You Want', also contributing to that lonely ambience." The song is
also noted for its simple claves-kept beat by Charlie Watts and Nicky
Hopkins "building single-chord organ" and ornamental turns on piano. ... ·♦

♦· Take me to the station
And put me on a train
I've got no expectations
To pass through here again
Once I was a rich man and
Now I am so poor
But never in my sweet short life
Have I felt like this before.
Your heart is like a diamond
You throw your pearls at swine
And as I watch you leaving me
You pack my peace of mind
Our love was like the water
That splashes...
on a stone
Our love is like our music
Its here, and then its gone
So take me to the airport
And put me on a plane
I got no expectations
To pass through
here
again . . . ·♦
