Se graduó en Psicología en la Universidad de Alabama,
en 1943. Su educación incluyó también, una Maestría en
la Universidad del estado de Washington en 1964, y un
Doctorado en Psicología en la Universidad de California,
en Berkeley (195O). En la "Fundación Kaiser Family"
(1955-1958) fue Director de Investigaciones Psiquiátricas
y en la Universidad de Harvard, entre los años 1959 a
1963, Conferenciante de Psicología .
As a clinical psychologist at Harvard Unversity, Leary
conducted experiments under the ► "Harvard Psilocybin
Project" in 196O-1962 (LSD and psylocybin were still
legal in the United States at the time) advocating the
exploration of the therapeutic potential of psychedelic
drugs under 'controlled conditions', resulting in the
"Concord Prison Experiment", and the "Marsh Chapel
Experiment". The scientific legitimacy and ethics of
his research were questioned by other Harvard faculty
because he took psychedelics together with research
subjects and pressured students in his class to take
psychedelics in the research studies. Leary and his
colleague, Richard Alpert (who later became known as
♦·Ram Dass·♦), were fired from Harvard University, in
May 1963. National illumination as to the effects of
psychedelics did not occur until after the Harvard
scandal.
Leary believed that LSD showed potential for therapeutic
use in psychiatry. He used LSD himself and developed a
philosophy of mind expansion and personal truth through
LSD. After leaving Harvard, he continued to publicly
promote the use of psychedelic drugs and became a well-
known figure of the ♦·counterculture of the 196Os·♦ He
popularized 'catchphrases' that promoted his philosophy,
such as "turn on, tune in, drop out", "set and setting",
and "think for yourself and question authority".
He also wrote and spoke frequently about "transhumanist"
concepts involving space migration, intelligence increase,
and life extension, and developed the ♦·eight-circuit
model of consciousness·♦ in his book "Exo-Psychology" of
1977. He gaves lectures, occasionally billing himself as
a 'performing phylosopher'.
During the 196Os and 197Os, he was arrested often enough
to see the inside of 36 prisons worldwide. President
Richard Nixon once described Leary as "the most dangerous
man in America".

♦· 'Ram Dass' (Born: Richard Alpert, April 6, 1931) is an American spiritual teacher,
former academic and clinical psychologist, and the author of the seminal 1971 book
"Be Here Now". He is known for his personal and professional associations with Dr.
Timothy Leary at Harvard University in the early 196Os, for his travels to India
and his relationship with the Hindu guru 'Neem Karoli Baba', and for founding the
charitable organizations "Seva Foundation" and "Hanuman Foundation". He continues
to teach via his website (age 87)
In 1967 Alpert traveled to India where he met and traveled with the American
spiritual seeker "Bhagavan Das", and ultimately met the man who would become
his guru, "Neem Karoli Baba", at Kainchi ashram, whom Alpert called "Maharaj-
ji". It was Maharaj-ji, who gave Alpert the name "Ram Dass", which means ·el
sirviente de Diós·("servant of God"), referring to the incarnation of God as
Ram (carnero/cabra) of 'Lord Rama'. Alpert also corresponded with the Indian
spiritual teacher "Meher Baba" and mentioned Baba in several of his books.

Se graduó en Psicología en la Universidad de Alabama,

la Universidad del estado de Washington en 1964, y un
Doctorado en Psicología en la Universidad de California,
en Berkeley (195O). En la "Fundación Kaiser Family"
(1955-1958) fue Director de Investigaciones Psiquiátricas
y en la Universidad de Harvard, entre los años 1959 a
1963, Conferenciante de Psicología .
As a clinical psychologist at Harvard Unversity, Leary
conducted experiments under the ► "Harvard Psilocybin
Project" in 196O-1962 (LSD and psylocybin were still
legal in the United States at the time) advocating the
exploration of the therapeutic potential of psychedelic
drugs under 'controlled conditions', resulting in the
"Concord Prison Experiment", and the "Marsh Chapel
Experiment". The scientific legitimacy and ethics of
his research were questioned by other Harvard faculty
because he took psychedelics together with research
subjects and pressured students in his class to take
psychedelics in the research studies. Leary and his
colleague, Richard Alpert (who later became known as
♦·Ram Dass·♦), were fired from Harvard University, in
May 1963. National illumination as to the effects of
psychedelics did not occur until after the Harvard
scandal.
Leary believed that LSD showed potential for therapeutic
use in psychiatry. He used LSD himself and developed a
philosophy of mind expansion and personal truth through
LSD. After leaving Harvard, he continued to publicly
promote the use of psychedelic drugs and became a well-
known figure of the ♦·counterculture of the 196Os·♦ He
popularized 'catchphrases' that promoted his philosophy,
such as "turn on, tune in, drop out", "set and setting",
and "think for yourself and question authority".
He also wrote and spoke frequently about "transhumanist"
concepts involving space migration, intelligence increase,
and life extension, and developed the ♦·eight-circuit
model of consciousness·♦ in his book "Exo-Psychology" of
1977. He gaves lectures, occasionally billing himself as
a 'performing phylosopher'.
During the 196Os and 197Os, he was arrested often enough
to see the inside of 36 prisons worldwide. President
Richard Nixon once described Leary as "the most dangerous
man in America".

♦· 'Ram Dass' (Born: Richard Alpert, April 6, 1931) is an American spiritual teacher,
former academic and clinical psychologist, and the author of the seminal 1971 book
"Be Here Now". He is known for his personal and professional associations with Dr.
Timothy Leary at Harvard University in the early 196Os, for his travels to India
and his relationship with the Hindu guru 'Neem Karoli Baba', and for founding the
charitable organizations "Seva Foundation" and "Hanuman Foundation". He continues
to teach via his website (age 87)
In 1967 Alpert traveled to India where he met and traveled with the American
spiritual seeker "Bhagavan Das", and ultimately met the man who would become
his guru, "Neem Karoli Baba", at Kainchi ashram, whom Alpert called "Maharaj-
ji". It was Maharaj-ji, who gave Alpert the name "Ram Dass", which means ·el
sirviente de Diós·("servant of God"), referring to the incarnation of God as
Ram (carnero/cabra) of 'Lord Rama'. Alpert also corresponded with the Indian
spiritual teacher "Meher Baba" and mentioned Baba in several of his books.
