Leary and his colleague, Richard Alpert (who later became known as ♦·Ram Dass·♦), were fired from Harvard University, in May 1963. National illumination as to the effects of psychedelics did not occur until after the Harvard scandal. Leary believed that LSD showed potential for therapeutic use in psychiatry. He used LSD himself and developed a philosophy of mind expansion and personal truth through LSD. Que ésta canción fue compuesta por John Lennon, -en forma primaria- para la campaña al cargo de Gobernador de California, por Timothy Leary. Leary iba a competir contra Ronald Reagan. Pero caería en desgracia, dado que fue preso por posesión de narcóticos. Era el año 1969. Así de sencillo. Así de grave, también. 'Come Together' es un acid/rock. Un rock ácido, con connotación político/sexual... una Canción, bien al estilo Lennon. . . Fué nº 1, en las listas de discos simples, en los Estados Unidos, y Top 1O, en Gran Bretaña. En 1973, Lennon fue demandado por plagio por Morris Levy, que era el propietario de la editora musical del rocker Chuck Berry. Una frase en 'Come Together'.♪ tiene parecidos con una frase de "You Can't Catch Me".♪. . ., de Chuck Berry. ► "Here come ol' flattop, he come groovin' up slowly", en la canción de Los Beatles vs. "Here come up flat- top, groovin' up with me", en la canción de Chuck Berry. Después de solucionarlo en la corte, Lennon prometió grabar otras canciones pertenecientes a Levy, las cuales fueron en 1975 editadas en el álbum: ♦·Rock'n'Roll·♦.♪. . . En la grabación de la canción, Lennon tocó la guitarra rítmica y lleva la voz líder. McCarney tocó el bajo. Harrison, la lead guitar, y Ringo Starr, batería y maracas. Fue producida por George Martin, y grabada en los Estudios Abbey Road, a finales de julio de 1969. Lennon dice: "Shoot me". . .("Dispárame"), acompañado de sus palmas y del riff de bajo de Paul... Aunque Paul hizo el arreglo de teclado, fue John quien tocó en dicha grabación. Por un tiempo, la canción fue censurada por la BBC, por la creencia que la línea 'he shoot Coca-Cola' podía ser vista como una referencia a la cocaína.
